Quality website design is not as hard when making pages for businesses or e-commerce stores with lots of items, but it is still no simple feat. Customers often think that a feature they want edited that sounds no problem is not difficult at all. It seems like a quick little five second change that's no problem. The common problem is that clients do not see the extent of a change that they need, let alone an addition or extra add on they want. I recently had a client that suddenly (in the middle of the job, after we had come to agreement on terms and price) decided that she wanted an extra Flash slide show added on. I knew she didn't want to spend a lot of money and wanted to keep with the budget as close as possible, so I gave her a low price for the extra add on. Only after that, does she tell me that she wants and additional page added on for the slide show to be on which would also have it's own content.

Another example of when customers not understanding the price that things cost starts right from the beginning when people want huge e-commerce store designed with a huge amount of products to go along with it and they have no idea the extent of work it requires or how much it will cost. This has happened before and it is not a comfortable situation to be in. When a job starts off like this, the buyer is usually not worth the cost they will pay for the headaches they will cause. Sometimes a web page designer just has to let the client go and move on to the next project.

What Designers Need To Know

A often problem is that the client is just not ready for the investment and to take a leap to get their professional web page designed. People just aren't ready sometimes and until they are, they need to find a cheaper or free alternative to custom web page design. At this point, the best thing a designer can do is keep in contact with them from time to time and let them know that the job is still ready to be started when they are ready. Clients sometimes take months to get back to designers with a clear vision of the site they are finally ready to have built.
